We live in a time when every day we hear about war and violent resistance. Peace Group Nijmegen wants to draw attention to the possibilities of nonviolent resistance and the pursuit of positive peace. Positive peace is not just peace without war.

Positive peace is

living without violence, actively peaceful
in a society where everyone’s rights are guaranteed, including those of nature,
where everyone is heard and seen and is important.

Peace Group Nijmegen aims to connect individuals and groups working for positive peace.

The group was founded May 16, 2024 by four peace seekers.

It wants to promote awareness around positive peace with:

-Peace Café: organizing meals, talks, lectures, workshops and other meetings. Literature, theater, dance, music and other arts we put in where it makes sense.

-Education: collecting peace materials for schools and giving workshops or lessons there.

-Network: establish contacts and explore cooperation with peace groups, individuals and initiatives in Nijmegen and surrounding areas. Drawing attention to the work of ourselves and these groups via this website.

Statement:

We, the groups and persons that signed this statement, work for positive peace. That is peace without violence, where everyone is heard and seen and everyone’s rights are guaranteed.

Where there is violense and injustice, we seek causes, remedies and opportunities tot resist without violence.

It is not the intention of Peace Group Nijmegen to condemn people who do use violence to fight injustice. Our goal is to generate more attention to nonviolent resistance, which, according to researcher Erica Chenoweth, is two to three times more successful than violent resistance. And we want more attention to positive peace as a goal.
